Health and Wellbeing cluster
6 months in Johannesburg, South Africa
I spent a month arranging and analysing four focus group discussion on new HIV prevention technologies. I then spent three months designing and piloting a discrete choice experiment on how the introduction of new prevention products might affect people’s choices, before collecting quantitative data on preferences for new products.
Much of my fieldwork was funded through collaborating with a LSHTM project in Johannesburg, but the fieldwork funding allowed me to carry out addition qualitative and quantitative data collection to better meet my research objectives.
The funding allowed me to tailor data collection to answer my specific research questions. Because much of the work was funded by a project, the additional funding enabled me to gain a great deal of additional information in a cost-effective way.
